Syracuse’s First Hotel Pursuing LEED-Certification

Located at the epicenter of the Syracuse University campus, Golisano Children’s Hospital, Upstate Medical Center, and Crouse Hospital, Hotel Skyler will stand ready for the progressive minded business traveler.

Committed to sustainable design and construction, Hotel Skyler is seeking gold certification through the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED program.  LEED certification provides third party validation that a building is indeed “green,” providing energy savings, economic rewards, improved health for building occupants, and conservation of finite natural resources.  LEED recognition has also become an avenue for acknowledging leaders in the sustainable building movement.

Project designers will require that Hotel Skyler be planned, constructed, and operated based upon USGBC standards set forth for green buildings.  A whole building design approach—rooted in the commitment to conserve and sustain will carry over not only into the construction phase, but also into occupancy through the implementation of various green operations and maintenance strategies.

While obvious that global climate change can no longer be ignore it’s also increasingly obvious that environmental stewardship begins ‘at home.’  When travelers stay as guests at the Hotel Skyler, they will be assured that their home away from home takes the environment as seriously as they do.  Guests can expect luxurious, bohemian-chic inspired décor, complementing innovative room layouts and expertly appointed common areas.  Extraordinary, personalized service will be at the forefront of our mission.  Hotel Skyler will create a healthier, sustainable climate to benefit guests, associates and the environment, by offering an extraordinary level of comfort, optimized energy performance, and a reduced carbon footprint.  Construction is slated to begin in October 2009, and occupancy is planned for June 2010.
